The Vitra Dual Sauna is made with hem fir that is excellent for saunas with its resistence to decay and for its beautiful, light appearance. Many customers prefer hem fir over cedar because cedar's high color-variation is less desirable than the smooth consistent refined appearance of hem fir. Every board of Vitra's wood is hand-selected by Michael Ducharme for its vertical grain, which amounts to less than 10% of the available materials. Michael admits that he's a wee bit fanatical about his sauna building requirements but the vertical grain can hold its shape much better than flat grain, so there's a lot less chance of warping and cupping of those tongue and groove boards.
