Health Benefits of Saunas
|
Dr. Omar Moreno:
I highly recommend the daily use of a sauna or a steam bath to promote overall detoxification, which protects your body from diseases.
|
Saunas are highly recommended by:
- Physiotherapists
- Cardiologists
- Dermatologists
- Naturopaths
- Dentists
- General Medical Practicioners
Many doctors agree that taking a sauna regularly is one of the healthiest things you can do for your
body.
The overall effect is that you will look and feel better, but the real health benefits of saunas
are much deeper than that. Saunas can help you to stay free of diseases in a natural, healthy
way.
There is overwhelming evidence that the toxins we breathe, eat and drink are responsible for the majority
of illness, and saunas are proven to be the most effective method for the daily removal of these
toxins. We would love to discuss with you how the sauna may improve your health. Please call Michael at 800-641-0173
ext 110.

Michael Ducharme: Suffice it to say that there is a lot of incorrect information on the Internet.
You'll need to be mindful of what is honest, reasonable information and what is
completely made up, or passed on carelessly from unverified sources.
|
Some other health benefits are:
- Lose weight effortlessly
- Ease sore and tired musles
- Relieve back pain or arthritis
- Combat colds and sinus problems
- Improve skin's look and feel
- Feel peaceful and relaxed
- Sleep better
- Socialize with family or friends
- Get a close shave

Taking a sauna reduces colds and flu by half! "A German study found that people who
steamed twice a week got half as many colds as those who didn't... When you take a sauna you inhale air too
hot for cold and flu viruses to survive."

- Detoxifies the body and reverses cumulative buildup of
harmful chemicals. We take in a constant supply of toxins just by living
normally. The kidneys can eliminate some toxins, but a significant portion builds up in the tissues.
The skin can eliminate these toxins through sweating. (Michael's note:
Your sweat
is composed of about 99% water. The remaining 1% is mostly salt. What's left after that are the toxins.
Some Web sites make ridiculous claims that they can cause you to sweat 20% toxins. You needn't
believe that type of rubbish to be convinced of the sauna's health benefits. Your body dumps
harmful chemicals in its perspiration. And perspiration is a colorless liquid, not that yellow
substance I've seen from irresponsible marketers. Do not underestimate the power of
perspiration in eliminating these everyday toxins.
- Enhances circulation in both deep and surface tissues.
- Accelerates healing from wounds, injuries, and surgeries, and thus reduces scarring.
- Improves skin nourishment/skin condition.
- Warms muscles (maximizes muscle performance and minimizes exercise related injury).
- Enhances nutrient/oxygen supply to deep tissues.
- Promotes softening and elasticity of old scars (internal or external) and keloids.
- Promotes deep cleansing of skin pores. The sauna definitely cleans the body
thoroughly from the inside out. Heavy perspiration in a sauna is an excellent way
to combat skin blemishes including acne, which is the result of blocked pores
and an external manifestation of a toxic body.
- Induces muscle relaxation.
- Accelerates metabolism (approximately 600 calories burned in 30 minutes).
- Accelerates breakdown of cellulite/fat. (Michael's note: While some Web sites
claim that the infrared rays can accomplish this task directly, we remain skeptical
of these studies they refer to. But it is much more reasonable to focus on the sauna's ability
to help you combat cellulite indirectly through the consumption of energy
(burning of calories) that occurs as your body works to cool itself.)
- Boosts the immune system.
- Reduces pain (promotes analgesia).
- Reduces physiological and mental/emotional stress.
- Improves digestion.
- Provides an anti-cancer effect (induced by hypothermia, enhanced immune and circulatory
systems and elimination of carcinogenic toxins)
What is the purpose of a sauna?
The basic purpose of a sauna is to cleanse the body through perspiration. This means opening the pores of the skin and flushing out the impurities
in the body through sweating.
Sauna users often experience physical rejuvenation and stress relief. The sauna is also ideal for relieving cold symptoms, reviving muscles
after exercise, and clearing the complexion.
Many people attest to the healing powers of the sauna for mental depression and anxiety. They say that after leaving the sauna, the mind is in a
relaxed, lucid state, free of the worries of the everyday world. Also, when the body feels soothed and energized, the mind and emotions often
follow suit.
What happens to my body in a sauna?
When you take a sauna, the heat forces blood circulation near the skin and stimulates sweating. Sweating helps the body rid itself of unwanted
materials and improves general circulation. Your body will produce approximately a quart of sweat per hour.
Even if you're in a very hot steam bath or sauna, it's mostly your body's surface temperature that rises. As it increases, blood vessels dilate,
and circulation in the skin climbs. As resistance to blood flow through your veins and capillaries drops, your blood pressure goes down. Then your
heartbeat increases to keep blood pressure normal.
Are saunas used for weight loss?
Yes, weight loss is one of the saunas many health benefits. You will be lighter when you leave the sauna, but that result is only temporary.
After every sauna you need to replace the water that your body has lost, and this will cause your body to return to it's previous weight. But,
sweat does not just "leak" out of your body. Your body must use energy to cool itself, creating perspiration. Even though you feel
relaxed, your body is exercising. Weight loss will occur in this respect.

I'm 53 and I've been using saunas all my life. The sauna feels great with relief that can last
for hours. I love what it does for my skin!

Saunas are said to calm nerves, reduce tension, and induce a euphoric, peaceful mood.
At the same time, the invigorating cycles of heat and cold sharpen the senses and increase alertness
and concentration, so that some people sauna in the morning. However, when you go to bed, the
relaxation is deep and complete, "Everyone knows that a sauna makes you sleep like a baby."
