More Information
A sauna kit can go almost anywhere. Consider placing one beside your pool, in a shed or garage, your master bathroom, or basement rec room. You can build a sauna in any size or shape that you like... the freedom is yours to innovate.
Before you install the sauna, you need to make sure that you have built a frame and insulated the area. For this you will need:
- Stud walls and ceiling joists (typically 2 X 4 spruce studs, available at Home Depot or Lowe's)
- Insulation (R 12 for walls and ceiling, available at Home Depot or Lowe's)
- Wiring, often supplied by your electrician
- Smaller units require 14/3 90°C-rated with 15 Amp split breaker
- Larger units require appropriate wire gauge with 30 or 40 amp breakers

Expert Product Reviews
Jason Biffis, sauna enthusiast:
The Western Red Cedar kits from American Sauna are designed and produced by Saunatec in Minnesota.
Saunatec is the american distributor for 4 long time Finnish companies, which include Polar, Helo,
Finnleo, and Amerec. With Finnish quality distributed under American standards; you know that what you
are getting is a quality product backed by a reputable company.
Western Red Cedar is a beautiful wood that reacts very favorably under sauna conditions. Check our
comparison page [here] to see all of the benefits of woods recommended for saunas.
The American Sauna kit comes with all that you need to build your sauna lining and interior. You need
to allow time to build out your frame, keeping in mind that the dimensions of your kit are interior
dimensions. This kit is great if you have dimensions that are slightly less than the kit size, as you can
trim the boards down to fit exactly what you need. The benches and duckboard for the floor are prebuilt,
and the door is prehung, leaving you only to mount the vertical boards on your walls, and install the
rest. These kits also come with an accesory kit including a bucket, ladle, and thermometer included in
the price.
