More Information
A sauna kit can go almost anywhere. Consider placing one beside your pool, in a shed or garage, your master bathroom, or basement rec room. You can build a sauna in any size or shape that you like... the freedom is yours to innovate.
Before you install the sauna, you need to make sure that you have built a frame and insulated the area. For this you will need:
- Stud walls and ceiling joists (typically 2x4 spruce studs)
- Insulation (R 12 for walls and ceiling). In some cases insulation is not required.
- Wiring supplied by your electrician

Optional accessories:
If you are purchasing a traditional sauna
(with a hot rock heater) then we recommend also purchasing a wooden bucket
with a plastic liner, as well as a wooden ladle . These items will make it easier for you to
enjoy hot bursts of healthy steam. The wooden handles of the bucket and ladle always remain
cool to the touch in the sauna, and the plastic liner prevents the growth of mold that
would otherwise occur without the liner. For additional health benefits, add a few drops of
eucalyptus oil to the water before pouring it on the rocks. Or, try adding a
few drops of beer, and you'll enjoy the smell of home-made bread baking in the oven.

Expert Product Reviews
Jason Biffis, sauna enthusiast:
A rustic, country style feel is what you get when you choose the Eastern White Cedar kit for your personal sauna from
123saunas. The pleasant cedar smell is the same as you would get from Western Red Cedar, and it still maintains the same
reactions under sauna conditions. Like the WRC, the white cedar will have very little movement or expansion, it is not very
susceptible to warping, and it has very high resistance to decay and fungus, which you definitely don't want in a sauna. The
density with respect to the WRC is about .98, which isn't much difference at all.
The main difference is the look. While the red cedar will give you a clear finish, with no knots, and a very close tight
grain, the white has beautiful lines and tight knots. One other advantage that I personally believe is very important, is
that while in the red cedar, each board can vary in tint from a light brownish color to a dark red, the white is very uniform
from board to board. I like this aspect the most.
Aside from these benefits, the other big difference is the cost. Eastern White Cedar is easier and less expensive to come
by,
and of course we choose to pass these savings on to you, the sauna enthusiast!
