- Installation Instructions
The portable sauna unit comes in two heater sizes: 1.7 kw and 2.1 kw. The 1.7 kw unit is made for use on 15 amp circuits, and can be used
on all 15 amp or 20 amp household outlets (the standard 120V outlet found in all homes). The 2.1 kw unit can only be used on 120V,
20 amp circuits (i.e. kitchen circuits and laundry circuits). It is advisable to run a dedicated circuit to operate your portable
sauna, to avoid any unnecessary tripping of the breaker.
Your new portable sauna comes in two halves that fasten together. One half contains the benches (back half) and the other half has the
door (front half). Assembling the portable can be done with only one person, but two people make it easier.
Your sauna will arrive in one piece (pre-assembled). Using the Allen wrench provided, turn the latches to release (4 latches, 2 per side).
This will release the sauna into two pieces. The depth of each half is 22½" allowing it to fit through most standard doorways. Each
half can be rolled, slid, or carried to the site of installation.
After separating the two halves, lay the front half down on the side without the cord. Lay the back half down also. On the bottom of the
sauna, in each corner and on the center of the floor joint is a metal plate with a threaded hole in the center. There are a total of six
metal plates. Included with the portable room is a set of 6 casters, these have threaded stems for screwing into the metal plates. The
casters screw into each corner metal plate and into the metal plates at the center of the floor joint. After these are in place, stand both
halves back up.
To begin assembly, place the halves with their open sides facing each other. You will notice that the 1½" x 1½" framing
on the bottom has bevelled cuts to easily fit into the other half; the tongue and groove panelling on the outside and inside of the walls
will fit tightly together when the two halves are pushed together. The ceiling panels have a foam gasket between them to create a tight seal.
The metal insert in the front half is called the locking point, it has a locking arm that pivots. The metal insert in the back half is
called the strike. The locking arm will latch on to a pin in this strike when the two halves are fastened together. This is the "cam
lock system ". Before trying to fit the two halves together, be sure that the locking arm is retracted all the way into the insert,
the locking arm should not be visible at this point.
The Cam Lock System
In order to assemble the two halves, all interlocking joints must be lined up so they can slide together as the two halves are pushed
together. If you are assembling this unit alone, it will help to have the half that contains the bench pushed up against a wall or
something that will not allow it to slide during installation.
When the interlocking joints are lined up, carefully slide the two halves together watching so the tongues slide into the grooves. It is
very important that all interlocking joints are lined up before attempting this. If not, the two halves will not go together.
Once the front and back halves are pushed together, using the Allen wrench provided, insert it into the hex shaped holes on the front half
of the room and turn. The locking arm will pivot and catch the pin in the strike. The "cam lock system" not only latches, but also
draws the two sections tight and they lock.
After the room is securely fastened together and in the location you plan to use it, you are ready to ad the rocks to the heater. The rocks
should be rinsed off before placing them in the heater. In order to place the rocks in the heater, remove the rock guard (grill).
- Ventilation
Your sauna room has an integral natural air flow ventilation system. This vent system assures that there is sufficient fresh air in the
sauna when it is in use. Fresh air will make your sauna experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Intake Vent
Fresh air enters the sauna room through the vent below the heater.
Exhaust Vent
Air exhausts the sauna room through a vent below the top bench, up the wall, and out through an opening in the back of the room.
NOTE: The vents must be kept free from any obstruction so proper air flow is maintained in the sauna room. Do not stack anything
in front of the vents or push the back of the sauna up tight to a wall surface.
- Maintenance Tips
- Clean the sauna often to keep a fresh and well-maintained appearance.
- Use a bucket of warm water with a mild detergent soap and a clean sponge or rag to wipe the bench surfaces and floor.
- Avoid heavy detergents, they could discolor your wood or leave a residue, which could emit irritating or harmful fumes.
- Wet mop the floor with the mild soap mixture.
- You may clean the rocks after they have completely cooled. Soak them in a soapy (light detergent) mixture of warm water. Wash them off with a sponge, then rinse in clean water. Allow them to dry then re-apply rocks to the heater trough. Clean the heater of the foreign substances. Gradually build heat in the sauna to totally dry the rocks.
- Never ever turn a hose on the sauna to wash it down.
- Periodically remove all stones from the heater and clean the trough. If a stone breaks do not allow it to remain in the trough. In time, if left unattended, the grit could damage the stainless steel.
- Thompson's WaterSeal may be used on exterior paneling if the sauna is going outdoors.
- How to Take a Sauna
- When taking a sauna, allow time to relax completely.
- Remove clothing and jewelryif required, wear a towel loosely.
- After 10 minutes or when perspiration begins, leave sauna and relax in dressing areafollow with a cool shower.
- Cooling time should equal time spent in sauna. Enter sauna room again and stay 5 or 10 minutes.
- Repeat the cycle 2 or 3 times; end with a brisk showerrinse in cool water.
- Dress when completely dry and perspiration has stopped.
- Some sauna bathers enjoy the soothing effect of steam by splashing water on the heated sauna rocks. Use only one dipper full (approx. cup) at a time and keep clear of the steam as it rises off the rocks.
- Do not smoke, exercise or drink alcoholic beverages in the sauna room.
- Do not pour chlorinated pool or spa water on the heater or corrosion damage may result.
